Also appeared on a soundtrack to a movie the same year, which exists on LP and maybe cassette - but not CD. Take Me Down to the Ocean - B-side to Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny). Not sure if it has appeared on CD or not (French versions, VA best of's?) J'Veux de la Tendresse - French version of Nobody Wins. Think it wasn't released in UK until the Breaking Hearts eraĬan't Get Over Getting Over Losing You - B-side to Just Like Belgium. Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever, a duet with Kiki Dee, came out in 1981 and I don't know if it has appeared on a Kiki CD.įools in Fashion - B-side to Nobody Wins - awesome track I have never owned this set, sadly, so I have never heard it. It's B-side, Donner Pour Donner, appeared on the To Be Continued box set. Non-album stuff: Les Aveux with France Gall.

Instrumental track, used in a snooker (billiards) TV program, I think Steal Away Child - B-side to Dear God - lovely song Love So Cold - B-side to Dear God - fun track (Dear God was released as a 2x7" set with this & the song below on a disc for itself) White Man Danger - B-side to Sartorial Eloquence - cool organ soloĬartier Commercial - B-side to Sartorial Eloquence - a brief sort-of sarcastic song about Cartier The Goaldigger's Song - a football charity thing, not that many copies pressed, B-side is banter between Elton & some football managers (I think)Ĭonquer the Sun - B-side to Little Jeannie - great track

Snow Queen (with Kiki Dee) - B-side to Don't Go Breaking My Heart Off the top of my head, these tracks have never appeared on CD: I don't wanna go on with you like that (extended)īetween 19 Elton released a lot of singles, many of which had unique B-sides. I don't wanna go on with you like that (Just for radio mix) I don't wanna go on with you like that (Just Elton and his piano mix) I don't wanna go on with you like that (Pub dub mix) I don't wanna go on with you like that (Shep Pettibone mix) Wrap her up (extended version 12") (1985) I heard it thrugh the grapevine (live at Wembley) (1984) Sad songs (say so much) (12" version) (1984) For completeness sake, just mentioning that Act of War is on CD, but I'd need to check if that goes for all parts.Īnd how about gathering up all those duets on a second volume of that one.Ĭan't get over getting over losing you (1981) Or maybe even a box that also compiles the bunch of songs Elton contributed to soundtracks, tribute albums etc. Again I'd sure like to see them all collected on a Rare Masters part 2 set. Do correct me !įrom the late 80's onward, most, if not all, non-album tracks turned up on CD singles/EPs. Either way, going over Elton's discography, the top of my head selected the following for not being on any album. First a 45 that isn't really "Elton" but I'd sure welcome it on a CD somewhere. Interestingly, in the years since Rocky 5, the song is considered by many to be one of the best parts of the movie.OK, let's see. Menken worked as a composer on films as far removed from Rocky as could be such as Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Little Mermaid”. In 1991, “Measure of a Man” received a Golden Raspberry nomination for Worst Original Song. The song’s music and lyrics were written by composer Alan Menken who won an Academy Award for Best Song with “Colors of the Wind” from Walt Disney’s Pocahontas.

The lyrics to this song truly vocalize Rocky’s plight and when teamed with Elton’s performance, “Measure of a Man” closes Rocky V in style.Įlton John actually had no part in the composition of the track, a departure from his usual method of musical production.

Perhaps the most surprising track on the album is Elton John’s “Measure of a Man”, which is reserved for the end credits, sung over a series of black and white still photos covering the entire Rocky series up through Rocky V. Interspersed between these contemporary tunes are smatterings of Bill Conti’s original Rocky themes such as “Mickey” and “Gonna Fly Now”, as well as an updated 90’s version of Frank Stallone’s classic “Take You Back”.
